Poverty, a thing of the past in Singapore?

A masterful piece by Martyn See... of the poor and the old. A must-watch, especially for the people at the top who are trapped in their cotton-candy world that poverty is history in Singapore.

Imagine yourself at that age, collecting cans and cardboard. I would do it so as to recycle stuff in the environment, but not cos I need to eke out a living out of it. This film is moving, to say the least. Kudos to See, for bringing out the harsh reality we all knew but chose to ignore.

yes comparatively speaking, it's a mild problem, but thing is, it's not something we should ignore.

we have to learn how to catch people who fall through our social net, and not sit back, relax and think that poverty belongs to other SEA countries only.

i hope that individual Singaporeans can help out the needy, be it financially or giving a helping hand whenever they can, for e.g. giving up their seats on public transport to a more needy person/ helping a blind man/woman cross the road.

simple acts of generosity go a long way, will help the society grow together and give an all-inclusive feeling to our general populace, not to mention improve our social standing in other foreigners' eyes.
